Star Wars Celebration kicks off Thursday, April 16 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. The Force has never been stronger with the gathering of the Star Wars faithful than this year. With the impending release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this year and Star Wars: Rogue One next year, this year’s Celebration will be the biggest Celebration since the creation of Celebration. I will not be attending the event this year nor do I claim to have any inside knowledge of the event.
So here are some of my predictions of what will happen at this year’s Celebration.
We will get to see a new full-length trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We’ve heard for some time now that a new full-length trailer that includes our first look at the Original Trilogy cast members will be attached to The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. I believe there would be no better place for the world premiere of the trailer than at Celebration.
Cast members from Star Wars: The Force Awakens will make an appearance at Celebration. Director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy are spearheading Celebration with the first panel of the event Thursday (April 16) morning. Along with showing a new trailer, attendees will get a surprise visit from cast members of the new movie. Know we know that Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are scheduled to be at Celebration, but I predict that Abrams will bring out actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Andy Serkis.
Lots of money will exchange hands at Celebration. This one is a five star guarantee. The whole purpose of Celebration is for Star Wars fans to get their hands on Star Wars merchandise and there will be lots of exclusives available at this year’s event.
There is a somewhat likely chance that along with a new trailer for The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams will let those gathered see a clip from the new movie. This one could either be a three second snippet (like what Abrams did with the Spock/Volcano scene from Star Trek: Into Darkness) or a no more than five minute scene of dialogue.
We will get more cast announcements for Star Wars: Rogue One. The director of the first Star Wars stand alone movie, Rogue One, is scheduled to speak at Celebration on Sunday morning. Gareth Edwards will use this occasion to announce more cast members for Rogue One. Shooting for the film will soon get underway and because of a unique deal between Lucasfilm and Paramount, Rogue One will not be able to make any announcements about their production until Paramount releases their next Mission: Impossible movie, Rogue Nation, this summer. We may even get a one paragraph description about the Rogue One plot.
Not Bloody Likely
Any details about the Star Wars: The Force Awakens plot. Attendees will be no more knowledgeable about the new movie’s plot coming out of Celebration than they knew going into Celebration. While the creators will share where the production stands currently, post-production, music scoring will begin in a couple of months, not a single nugget of plot will be divulged from the cast or crew. Watching a new trailer will be enough to sustain fans for a couple more months.
Like I mentioned earlier, I do not claim to have any inside knowledge about what is going to happen at Celebration, these are just guesses. Please do not wager money.
May the Force be with you!
