As a kid in the 1970’s and 1980’s, a Star Wars action figure did not stay in its plastic prison for more than a few seconds upon delivery to my eager hands. Collecting Mint On Card (or MOC) was the absolute last thing on my mind at that time, I needed to play with that figure. As time marched on, the loose figures were put into a Darth Vader or C-3PO collector case and put into storage.
In the 90’s when the Power of the Force figures were put on store shelves, it was with child-like joy when I purchased a new figure and took it home. But that’s where the joy stopped, these new figures remained in their package and then were stored away.
Now onto the newest figures to come from Hasbro, the Black Series. We have two versions, the 3.75” and 6” versions. I started collecting the 6” series right from the start because they are just incredibly beautiful. But I didn’t start collecting the 3.75” series, until wave 6. Galen Marek (aka Starkiller) was the first figure I picked up of this wave. Come on, double light sabers! But my dilemma was, to open or not open the figure.
I received a second Starkiller for Christmas so my dilemma was solved. The second Starkiller did not stay in the packaging for long. There were lots of accessories with this one, two lightsabers, two lightsaber hilts, armor and great articulation. I haven’t had this much fun with an action figure since I was a kid. Using the Lightsaber & Laser app for iOS, I’m having quite the enjoyable time with action figure photography.
So, I guess it all comes down to the Collector’s Credo, “One to keep and one to open.”
